GMF#29 | From Matching Donations to Kindness Perks: Rethinking Corporate Giving
TL;DR:
At Give.Asia, we often hear the stories of people in need—but behind every campaign are unsung heroes: the companies, teams, and individuals quietly making generosity part of their culture. Over the years, we've seen a shift—not just in giving, but in the way organisations want to live giving. From doubling donations with MatchUp to exploring perks for kind acts, we’re co-creating new ways for companies to rally kindness at scale.
Giving isn’t just for individuals—many companies want to embed it into their culture.
MatchUp allows donations to be doubled quietly, creating surprise connections between givers.
Corporate giving can be more than a one-off campaign—it can inspire entire networks.
Kindness perks like discounts or freebies could reward and nudge more people to give.
We’re still experimenting—but we believe in starting small and learning together.
What If Giving Wasn’t Just an Act—But a Lifestyle?
If you scroll through the stories on give.asia, you’ll find pages filled with people in need of urgent medical care or families trying to get back on their feet. These are the faces of courage, the voices we often amplify.
But behind those stories is something we sometimes forget to talk about—
👉 the givers.
And not just individual givers.
We’re talking about companies.
Big ones. Small ones. Startups. Family-run outlets.
Many of them have reached out over the years, not just to donate, but to ask:
“How can we involve our employees and customers in doing good together?”
At first, our approach was simple:
✅ Find out what cause they care about.
✅ Introduce them to an NGO doing great work.
✅ Hope it becomes a lasting partnership.

But something kept surfacing again and again.
They didn’t just want to do good once.
They wanted to live it.
The Spark Behind “MatchUp”
One company suggested something small but powerful:
“What if we match our employees’ donations to double their impact?”
That simple idea sparked a journey.
We looked to the US-based platform DonorsChoose.org and fell in love with how they made giving interactive and contagious. Inspired by them, we launched our second special offering for companies:

🎉 MatchUp – a way for companies (and even individuals) to create surprise "match" moments where every donation is doubled by someone else quietly making it happen behind the scenes.

The best part?
👉 Givers don’t always know who matched them—just that someone out there believes in their kindness enough to make it go further.
It became more than a transaction.
It became a network of generosity.
We’ve now started offering this model to charities too, who can use their corporate sponsorships to amplify giving during campaigns. It gives sponsors tangible recognition while weaving them deeper into the giving ecosystem.

Perks for Kindness: Can We Make Doing Good Feel Even Better?
Lately, we’ve been playing with another idea.
Companies started asking:
“What if we could reward people who give? Like a loyalty program for doing good?”
Sounds a little strange at first—until you hear the details:
🍹 “Get a free upgrade from medium to large bubble tea if you show your Giving Pass.”
🔥 “Bring your friends to a Korean BBQ and get 20% off—because you volunteered together this weekend.”
What if kindness became a badge of belonging?
Not just to a brand or a place, but to a community.
One where we all share the same dream:
To change the world—through small acts of kindness.

We’re Still Learning (And Always Will Be)
We’re not claiming to have it all figured out.
But we’re trying.
And if you’re part of a company—or know one—that wants to explore ways to do good in ways that are fun, meaningful, and lasting…
Let’s talk.
You never know—your idea might just be the spark that inspires the next movement.
